Divorce Attorney Steven Visser, Child Custody, Colorado Springs
The issues that will be addressed in this type of case are:
- Paternity – unmarried parents and their child(ren) may require legal action to adjudicate paternity, or more simply, who is the child(ren)’s Father.
- Decision-Making – most parents typically use joint decision-making regarding any major decisions involving their children. Examples of major decisions can include educational, medical, dental, mental health, religion, and extracurricular activities.
- Parenting Time – how will time with the children be addressed between the parents?
- 50/50 Plan – parents share custody equally
- Less than 50/50 could include, for example, every other weekend.
- Parents may come up with their own plan for their children
- Child Support – calculated pursuant to guidelines and includes information such as the parties’ gross monthly incomes and number of overnights.
In some family law cases, the parents were never married. Regarding those matters, an allocation of parental responsibilities (APR) case would need to be filed with the Court.
